The Linx Hypnos Zero Concentrate Vaporizer Review
The Linx Hypnos Zero Wax vaporizer by California-based Linx Vapor has arrived at the Shore, and today we are giving this little unit a good run.
Here is what we thought…
The Form…
When you open up the carrying case, the first thing that strikes you is how small the Linx Hypnos Zero is. It is tiny, easily fitting in the palm of your hand. It is just a little over 4″ long, and a little more than 1/2″ in diameter. The Hypnos Zero is super discreet, and will fit virtually anywhere including a shirt pocket, or the pen holding sleeve in a briefcase.
The second thing that I noticed was the very high level of quality in the construction. The entire unit is constructed of polished surgical-grade stainless steel, and the quality of the machining is unparalleled; when the battery and oven are screwed together, the seam between the two parts is virtually invisible because the parts fit together so perfectly. This unit is really quite beautiful and is adorned with the Linx logo laser-etched, subtly, near the base of the unit.
There are three parts of the Zero that screw together: The battery, the oven/ atomizer and the two-part mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is made of quartz-in favor of metal or plastic-to leave the flavour of your best concentrates unadulterated.
The unit feels really nice in your hand, smooth and sleek, but surprisingly substantial for such a small device.
The Linx Hypnos Zero comes with a quality looking and feeling hard case to hold the device itself, the 510/USB charger, a spare mouthpiece and a dab tool. The only thing I didn’t like about the case is that the Dab tool storage receptacle-like the rest of the case’s interior- is lined with a felt-like material or flocking. I could envision the little “hairs” of the flocking sticking to the used tool which would subsequently contaminate the oven. I used a tiny piece of wax paper to protect the end of the tool before I put it back in the case so that can’t happen. Not a big deal…but just a thing.
The Power…
The Linx Hypnos Zero isn’t a big device, so the battery isn’t that big either. Even though the stainless steel clad battery is only 650 mAh, I found it more than adequate. I used the unit all day, and didn’t manage to drain the battery. Shatter, wax and CBD sessions tend to be a lot shorter than herb sessions so the overall outcome, I think is about the same. For me, three, ten-second draws did the trick, and I was able to do this 6 times on the highest power setting. I didn’t keep trying to see how many I could get before killing the battery. The Hypnos Zero outlasted me. 😉
The Hypos Zero is not a charge through device. More frequent users may want to purchase a spare battery to ensure you always have one ready to go, but for me, one battery is just fine…trust me. I just plugged it into my laptop overnight and was good to go the next day.
The Function…
Using the Hypnos Zero is easy , and works great.
To turn it on, just press the single operating button 5 times quickly and the button will flash white 5 times indicating it is ready for use. To shut it off, click another 5 times and the button will flash white 5 times again, indicating that it has shut down.
Once the unit is turned on, pressing the button engages the heater and indicates the selected temperature by illuminating the button in one of four colours:
- Blue-Low
- Green-Medium Low
- Yellow-Medium High
- Red-High
The Hypnos Zero is the only wax pen to have this kind of temperature control, and I really liked the flexibility. To cycle through them, just press the button quickly three times. At the lower temperatures I was getting beautiful, pure flavor, and at the top setting, really nice rich clouds. Like surprisingly nice clouds.
The Performance…
Wow...this thing is awesome. I was more than a little impressed by the Linx Hypnos Zero.
I decided to use shatter to test-out the device. Like other wax devices, loading the unit has the potential to be a messy business, but I found the dab tool effective with shatter. It’s also made easier by the shallow oven in the Hypnos, and I wasn’t worried about damaging any exposed coils with the all-ceramic construction of the doughnut-style oven.
I started at the lower temperatures and was really blown away by the quality of the vapour. Unlike exposed coil vaporizers that can have a hot, metallic feel, the vapour quality from the Hypnos Zero was absolutely fantastic! It was clean and unadulterated and I felt like I was getting the purest vapour possible.
As I dialed up the heat to the highest setting, I expected to get more vapour and some harshness. And I did get more vapour…Lots more! But what I didn’t get was the harshness. The heavier vapour at higher temperatures was almost imperceptibly warmer, was not harsh at all, and the flavour and quality was still the best I’ve ever had from a pen. Yep, I said it. It is the best concentrate vapour quality I’ve ever experienced in a pen. Ever. But then, I haven’t reviewed the Linx Ares Honey Straw yet. Stay tuned!
The Bottom Line…8.6
The bottom line is that the Linx Hypnos Zero is a rock star. I love it, and have added it to my personal arsenal.
The beautiful design will complement the designs of the best tech-devices of our time including those by Apple, Samsung and others. It really is that good.
One could argue that the battery could be bigger, but I think that it would only diminish the perfect size and form that the unit has. And with concentrate sessions typically shorter than herb sessions, I really didn’t experience any hardship. It lasted all day…that’s fine by me.
